THE CRS SUPER STOCK STORY
In 2000 Close Racing Supply Owner plus successful late model driver Bob
Close teamed up with former late model crew chief Joel Smith to build the
ultimate super stock car. This came about after realizing the equipment and
help that was previously available to the racers in this class was well
below average. Seeing racers having to modify their parts and nothing
seeming to fit their particular car was disturbing. Racing in this class was
below average with lots of poor handling cars. After request of some racers
we decided to start perfecting a late model quality car for super stock
racing. A chassis that was designed to be tougher and more rugged to handle
the abuse of 2700 lbs lower division racing. A chassis that each component
would fit without modification. We saw racers previously with clearance
problems on fuel pumps, oil pans, steering shafts, headers and other items
because builders did not make the extra effort to make sure everything fit
good. Also, lots of components that were on the market were a universal fit
part, meaning they would work but not be the absolute perfect part for their
application. So we decided to custom build a better part for our application
and that would also enhance performance and once again be strong enough to
take the abuse of super stock racing. Through the years we continue to
perfect both our chassis and components. Much of this is because of the help
of master steel fabricator and welder Mike DuClon, who was hired in the fall
of 2001 to help us provide a better product to our customers. We now have
four full time employees with over 35 years of combined full time racing
experience. We also design and build a lot of our own custom suspension
components that are now being used by other chassis builders as well,
although CRS was the original innovator of a majority of custom components
for today’s super stock cars. We take pride in building the highest quality,
safest, most durable, yet affordable super stock on the market today.
